Situation advice: Aug. 27, 2024, 5:04 p.m. New Severe T-Storm Watch issued for Ann Arbor and Detroit areas due to isolated tornadoes, golfball-sized hail, and gusts of up to 70 mph

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued by the NWS Storm Prediction Center for parts of Southeast Lower Michigan and Lake Huron, and it will be in effect this Tuesday from 355 p.m. to 900 p.m. The main risks are isolated, large hail events up to 1.5 inches in diameter, scattered, damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, and the possibility of one or more tornadoes.

The line of strong thunderstorms is slowly making its way southeast into southeast Lower Michigan, as seen by the constantly updated radar below.

As of 4:21 PM, these thunderstorms appear to be getting stronger. This makes sense as storms approach southeast Michigan, Ann Arbor, and the Detroit area. When the thunderstorms first start, be prepared to flee for cover.
