Updated: The Steelers add a defensive coach to their staff on this day, March 20, 2024, at 9:00 AM.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday morning that they had hired Midget to be their assistant secondary coach. Longtime head coach Mike Tomlin and secondary coach Grady Brown will oversee him.

After spending one season at Florida State, Midget is returning from his first collegiate assignment in ten years. He performed scouting, practice evaluation, and other duties with defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr.

Midget was the defensive backs coach for the Tennessee Titans for three seasons before moving to Tallahassee. He started his NFL career as a secondary coach for the Houston Texans, where he served for six seasons, the last two of which he spent as the team’s captain.

Midget has been a high school, college, and NFL coach for more for 20 years. Before taking on the roles of defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at Georgia State from 2008 to 2011, he was employed as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Virginia Tech. In 2012, he took on the position of defensive coordinator. The season after, Midget left to become the safeties coach at Penn State before entering the NFL.

The Florida native competed for the Hokies during his college career, which ended in a loss to Florida State in the Sugar Bowl for the National Championship. He played for the Hokies from 1996 to 1999. In 1999, he was named to the first team of the Big East. The Atlanta Falcons selected Midget in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. In addition, he was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to starting his coaching career.

This summer, Florida State has lost a few members of its off-field staff to promotions. Among the names to go were John Garrett (Duke), Director of Scouting (offense), and Cooper Williams (Missouri), Graduate Assistant (offense).

A few well-known names were absent from the Seminoles’ 2024 spring media guide, including Senior Defensive Analyst Shane Burnham, Volunteer Analyst (defensive) Anthony Midget, and Student Assistant Coach (offense) Nick O’Leary
