After the Chicago Bears shockingly dealt Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday for a 2025 sixth-round pick that might be a fourth-round pick, a new era of Bears football will begin in 2024.

With Chicago securing the first choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, Fields’ future there is now in doubt. With the quality of the quarterback class, the Bears’ selection of Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, or Drake Maye is virtually assured after Saturday’s deal. Williams is drafted first overall in multiple mock selections.

However, Pittsburgh is also entering a new chapter. Following Russell Wilson’s release by the Denver Broncos, the Steelers signed him and sent Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles. Pickett was all for it when coach Mike Tomlin stated that there would be competition this offseason for the starting spot in Week 1.

Tomlin told reporters he was eager to watch the quarterback assault the opposition and he had faith in Pickett.

Nevertheless, reports suggested that Pickett’s perspective shifted once Wilson entered the picture. He was going to challenge whatever the Steelers added, but maybe it didn’t seem possible that he would start over Wilson.

Fields’ time in Chicago did not turn out as planned, but he was not the only problem the team faced with him at quarterback. According to numerous sources, he will start again in Pittsburgh, just like the Bears, where the 2021 first-round selection will back up Wilson.

Wilson greeted Fields to Pittsburgh as soon as word of the deal leaked, writing, “Let’s get it @justinfields.” To his X account, he wrote, “QB room about to be (three fire emojis).”

Tomlin was careful to tell Fields straight out that Wilson would be the Steelers’ starting quarterback. Although Fields will still participate in training camp this summer, it seems unlikely that he will start the first game unless Wilson is hurt.
