EXCLUSIVE NEWS: 10 upcoming free agents to watch as…

The NFL’s franchise tag window officially opened on Tuesday, giving clubs until March 5 to apply the tag on its prospective free agents. This is also the opening leg of the rat race known as NFL Free Agency.

With the Las Vegas Raiders’ requirements in mind, here are a few players to keep an eye on to see if they’ll sign a one-year contract or go free agent.

Chris Jones, DT for the Kansas City Chiefs, is ranked first overall among free agents by PFF.

The Athletic Free Agent Ranking: fourth overall (#2 DT).

For years, Chris Jones harassed the Raiders’ offensive line while developing into one of the league’s finest interior pass rushers. However, after failing to agree to a contract extension with the Chiefs last offseason, he is set to become a free agency and may seek other opportunities.

While Jones stated during the team’s Super Bowl parade that he intends to stay in Kansas City for several more years, I’d take those alcohol-induced statements with a grain of salt because money talks at the end of the day.

CB L’Jarius Sneed of the Kansas City Chiefs is ranked 10th (#2 CB) by Pro Football Focus.

Athletic Ranking: 13th (#2 cornerback)

The Chiefs face a difficult dilemma with the franchise tag, as they can only apply it to Jones or L’Jarius Sneed. Whatever their division opponents decide, the Raiders should seize the opportunity to bring Jones or Sneed in. According to both ESPN and CBS Sports, Kansas City is more likely to sign the cornerback due to the lower price.

Justin Madubuike, DT for the Baltimore Ravens, is ranked 6th (#2 DT) by Pro Football Focus.

The Athletic Ranking: Third (#1 DT)

As previously said, the Silver and Black need defensive tackles, particularly those who can rush the passer and relieve pressure on Maxx Crosby. Justin Madubuike was one of the finest interior pass rushers last season, recording 64 pressures (sixth-highest at the position) and 12.5 sacks (most). However, Madubuike is the Ravens’ leading possibility to be tagged, according to ESPN and CBS
