After only three minutes, City had taken the lead thanks to a well-executed cross from Sean Roughan on the left, which allowed Jack Moylan to race onto the loose ball and blast it past Jack Stevens.

A few moments later, Danny Andrew sought to help square the score when Lyle Taylor nodded his curling delivery goalward and he later blasted a strong free-kick over the wall, but Lukas Jensen was equal to both attempts.

Then, at the other end, Lasse Sorensen brought down a ball on the right side of the box and curled a shot toward the top corner that was deflected, forcing Cambridge’s goaltender into a stop.

 

Following a corner kick by Reeco Hackett, which Alex Mitchell flicked on and nearly missed the right post due to a mass of players in the area, City came dangerously close to scoring.

Ethan Erhahon intercepted a pass just outside the box and played it to Moylan, who hammered it just inside the near post to score his fourth goal in two games, as the Imps continued to apply pressure and earned a second goal in the 25th minute.

As the half came to an end, Michael Skubala’s team was still in complete control of the match. In the 37th minute, Danny Mandroiu’s corner was only inches short of Paudie O’Connor’s left post, and the team came dangerously near to adding a third goal.

At the end of the first half, Sean Roughan’s cross from the left was headed goalward by the Dane, but Stevens denied Sorensen, giving City a two-goal lead at the break.

In the second half, the Imps continued to exert pressure and scored their third goal of the game after some deft build-up play. Joe Taylor scored the goal by bundling the ball over the line after Hackett slipped Mandroiu down the left side of the box.

In the 55th minute, Taylor had another chance as Mandroiu burst free with the ball and found the No. 9 in space, but he was only able to roll his attempt into the goalie’s hands.

 

Shortly after the hour, James Brophy nearly gave the U’s a response when he cut in from the right and forced Jensen to make a diving save to put his effort just beyond the top left corner.

After limiting the visitors’ opportunities in the second half, City launched a vicious counterattack in the 75th minute, scoring their fourth goal when Moylan found Taylor, who hoisted the ball over the charging Stevens to score his second goal of the game.

When Ted Bishop’s well-executed shot from the edge of the box was stabbed home on the line by TJ Eyoma in the 85th minute, Michael Skubala’s team gave the City faithful even more reason to celebrate.

 

A mere two minutes after Dylan Duffy’s first cross from the left was blocked back into his path, the Imps, hungry for more, rifled in past Stevens’ near post for their sixth goal of the game.

After a corner was deflected against the bar’s underside, Garry Monk’s team struck the woodwork during stoppage time, but Lukas Jensen was there to seize the opportunity and record another clean sheet.
