Breaking: Matt Eberflus, the coach of the Bears, is thrilled about the prospects at No. 9 and says all eyes are on the No. 1 pick.

With the Chicago Bears expected to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, all the discussion around the team has focused on the beginning of a new era.

However, those in the football community shouldn’t be so ready to disregard their other top-10 pick. Matt Eberflus, the coach of the Bears, isn’t.

According to Eberflus, “having that No. 9 pick is a really good spot to be in,” as stated on the team’s official website. It is located at the very top. Without a doubt, we’ll send a “blue” player there. Our actions during the free agency period have given us flexibility and the ability to select the player who best suits our needs.

Chicago has added a lot of players this offseason to address some of its major problems. Now a Bear, Keenan Allen is primed to run routes for Chicago’s next quarterback, while D’Andre Swift becomes the team’s first feature back since Jordan Howard, or more precisely, David Montgomery.

The Bears signed budding star cornerback Jaylon Johnson again, saw a welcome increase in defense output in the second half of 2023, and believe they’re ready to take the next step forward in 2024. Considering how close Eberflus was to losing his job in 2023, they should as well.

The Bears can select the best player available at No. 9 in the hopes of drafting him into a crucial position with this new perspective in mind. With plenty of depth at several positions and a set of quarterbacks projected to go in close succession, this draft is perfect for doing so and may even push some blue-chip talent further in the selection process than usual.

The Bears haven’t been in this situation in a long time, so there is a lot of drama to this draft beyond Williams’ almost probable selection at No. 1.

Though only time will tell, it’s possible that the team’s direction could also be altered by the offseason.
