Breaking: Jake Curry, upon signing with the Chicago Bears, included a message to the team following his record-breaking performance.

On Monday, former Cal offensive tackle Jake Curhan agreed to a one-year contract as a free agent with the Chicago Bears, rejoining new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

During Curhan’s tenure on the Seattle Seahawks’ active roster, Waldron was a member of the team for the previous three seasons.

The 26-year-old, 6-foot-6, 316-pound Curhan played in 29 games for the Seahawks over the previous three seasons, making nine starts. In 2021, he signed a free agent contract with the Seahawks

In his four starts at right tackle in 2023, Curhan gave up three sacks and 22 pressures. Despite his dismal 39.2 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus, he has demonstrated ability as a run blocker. He is also versatile because he has experience playing both guard positions.

As a rookie in 2021, Curhan made five starts; in 2022, he appeared in just four games without making a start.

To make the 53-man regular-season roster, he will need to perform well in preseason camp, but his knowledge with Waldron’s scheme might be an advantage.

With safety Elijah Hicks and wide out Keenan Allen on the Bears preseason roster, Curhan is one of three former Cal players.

Curhan redshirted his first year at Cal and went on to start all 33 games the following three seasons. During the pandemic that reduced the 2020 Cal season to four games, Curhan started two of those games and missed the other two due to Covid contact tracing.
